10 reasons why bmx dominates skateboarding.

10. Versatility - I can get there faster on a bike than I ever could on a skateboard. I'm not restricted to sidewalks and streets. Cutting through yards & fields for various reasons (i.e. running from da' man) is impossible on a skateboard. I can travel much further distances while exerting less energy on a bike than a skateboard.

9. Convenience - I always have an elevated place to sit.

8. Street Cred - Bikers have always been and will always be more manly than skateboarders. Besides, everyone learns to ride a bike, not everyone tries skateboarding.

7. Durability - While bikes are still capable of breaking, we can break multiple parts on our bikes and still have something to ride. If a skater breaks their deck... their done.

6. Skate shoes - Granted most of the shoes that we as BMXers ride are called "skate shoes" doesn't mean that their not perfectly suited for pedaling a bike. As a biker, we can pedal our bike in just about any type of shoe (including dress shoes.) And there are companies that make "bike shoes."

5. Light bikes & wheels- Although we may not have backpacks that allow us to strap our bikes to our backs, we do have extremely light bikes these days. Also, if our bike is to heavy to carry, guess what? We can just walk it.

4. Bailing - It is true that bailing off a bike is more difficult than bailing off a skateboard but once you've mastered the art, it's not that difficult. Skateboarding puts your ankles & groin muscles at peril everytime your ride. How many times have you seen a skateboarder roll an ankle or land in an involuntary splits after missing a trick.

3. Variety - There are way more tricks and potential for personal style on a bike than there is on a skateboard. While our pegs may cause more damage to a grindable surface than trucks do, BMXers look burlier and more impressive grinding down a huge ledge.

2. Skateparks - It is true that most parks are called skateparks (not all, i.e. Arizona has numerous bikeparks) but it's amazing to see how many skaters get out of the way of a guy on a bike when we're barreling down on them at speed. The size and mass of our bikes makes us way more intimidating than a skater and therefore gives us a "run of the park" when we show up.

1. Family jewels - I can honestly say, the only time I have ever racked myself while riding my bike was when I tried a handrail and missed. How many times have you seen a skater jump of a drop and had their board pop straight up and hit their nuts almost like a heat seeking missile? I have never landed on my seat and racked myself.

Ricky and Jesse in RideUK

thats right! to bad there not on their bikes lol. If you look very closely you can see rick, neon from spocomton and jesses mugs in these pictures from pages 138 and 139 of the november 2009 issue number 133. I had to buy this mag in Great falls because no one in bozeman carries it. And meanwhile in bozeman...its snowing and 1 degrees out.
